Blogging

Like most of you, I have a number of blogs that I follow every day – probably way too many!  One of these bloggers, who shall remain nameless, has started to have audio advertising on her blog, as well as print ads all over the place.

This really gets my goat, to put it politely.  Is it all about money?  I know in the past she has said in order to provide free patterns, she needs to have advertisers on her blog.  Why?  Lots of other quilters offer free patterns and don’t find the need to have ads all over their blogs.  It was the audio ads that did me in, though.

I sent her a very polite comment, telling her I had been a loyal follower of her blog for many years, understood that it was her blog and she could do what she wanted with it,  but felt she had gone too far with the audio ads.  She didn’t bother to respond to my comment and she deleted it from her blog – I guess she only wants nice comments that agree with everything she says and does.

Is it just me?  Is there something I’m just not getting?  I understand why sites like Quilter’s Cache need advertisers but it is almost like a bible to quilters with thousands of block patterns.  It isn’t a blog – it’s a website.

Maybe I’m just in a bitchy mood, but I had to get this off my chest and what better place than my blog.

Ian took this picture of my baby yesterday – look at those eyes!

To each their own, I suppose. But I prefer blogs with no commercial ads too.

I have a google reader category call "famous, why do I do it?". A lot of the famous ones are in there because there blog is all "buy my stuff, buy my stuff" with ads. They are like infomercials. I agree, talking ads are too much.

I am in total agreement. I hate the commercial blogs and do not want to see or hear advertising just to see what someone is up to in their sewing room. Blogging is a social thing for me.

I think everyone's individual situation is different. Just because one person can afford to blog without ads doesn't mean that all can. If a blog bugs me, for whatever reason, I stop reading it. Music on blogs gets to me more than advertising. I figure that as long as I am not paying for the benefit that I get from a blog then the blog owner can do whatever she pleases. I can read or not read, that's my choice.

I, too, get irritated with the advertisements on individuals' blogs. It takes forever to load and several I have deleted. I have to remember that these people are not really my friends. And since I have deleted some actual real acquaintances from my life because they took too much emotional energy I don't have to give, I felt no guilt about deleting the blogs. But I do miss seeing their beautiful work. But ads are their decision to make, I guess.

I also do not like blogs with ads. I don’t even like web sites with ads… there is way too much commercialism in the world these days. I rarely watch TV for that same reason… too many ads!

Ads are bad enough but audio ones are horrible! My boss doesn't have problems if I check Quiltersblog.com every once in awhile. But if I click on a blog to see more detail and the audio ads start, the whole office hears it - ugh!

My volume is always muted unless I turn it on because I want to hear something so I hadn't noticed audio ads. In general, I'm not a fan of ads on blogs either.

I don't like all the ads either but I understand the need for them. But audio ads is going too far. I don't like websites with music either.

Your furbaby is adorable!
